The population of Uzbekistan reached 37.1 million people as of June 1 of this year, the Statistics Agency reports.
There are slightly more men (18.6 million) in the country than women (18.4 million). 18.1 million people live in rural areas.
The average age of men is 28.5 years, and women - 30 years. This indicator gives a general idea of the age structure of the population and is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the ages of all people in the population.
Of the total population, 32% are under working age, 56.4% are of working age, and 11.6% are over working age.
Life expectancy has increased to 72.6 years for men in the city, 77.5 years for women. In rural areas - 72.3 years for men, 76 years for women.
The population density was 82.7 people per square kilometer. This is 1.7 people more than in the same period last year. The highest density was 6864.4 people in Tashkent, the lowest in the Navoi region - 9.8 people.
In the period from January to June 2024, 419.9 thousand children were born in Uzbekistan. Of these, 218.1 thousand were boys, and 201.8 thousand were girls. 212.3 thousand newborns were born in cities, and 207.6 thousand in rural areas.
Among the fathers, 9.9% were under 25 years old, 82.9% were in the age category from 25 to 39 years old, and 7.2% were over 40 years old. The age of the mothers of 37.4% of newborns was under 25 years old, 61.3% - from 25 to 39 years old, and 1.3% of infants had mothers over 40 years old.
The highest birth rate was recorded in the Samarkand region - 12%, Fergana region - 11.2%, Kashkadarya region - 10.5%, Andijan region - 9.2% and Surkhandarya region - 9%.
In the first six months, 81.4 thousand people died in Uzbekistan. Men - 44.4 thousand, women - 37 thousand.
